Our First Mustang Dark Horse SC Is in Race Red, and It's Headed to Circuit Florida

Our first Dark Horse SC just showed up at Holler Ford. It's Race Red, it's a Track Pack car, and I'm not going to pretend I wasn't walking around it for a while.

This one is spoken for. It's going to our client at Circuit Florida in Auburndale, Florida, which is exactly where this car belongs. Stretching its legs on the track daily!

Why it's a big deal

I've been getting questions about the SC since Ford revealed it. Now I can say we've got one through our doors. That matters when you're a performance guy at a dealership, because it's easier to talk about a car you've actually stood next to.

It also tells me something about where Mustang is headed. Ford built this car for people who want to drive hard, not just park it and look at it.

What you're looking at

The SC runs a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 making 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft. It sits just under the GTD's 815 and well above the standard Dark Horse's 500. It's also more power than the old GT500 made.

Power goes through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Built alongside the race cars

Ford developed the SC at the same time as the Mustang GTD and the Mustang GT3 race car. Lessons from endurance racing went straight into this one.

You can see it in the details:

  • An aluminum hood with a carbon fiber vent. Ford says it makes 2.5 times the downforce of the standard Dark Horse, with the rain tray removed.
  • Newer-generation adaptive dampers on every SC.
  • Variable traction control to help manage all that power.

What the Track Pack adds

This is the part that makes our car different from a standard SC. The Track Pack brings Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, carbon-ceramic brakes, and carbon wheels. It deletes the rear seats, and Ford says that drops about 150 pounds.

The honest part

This is a dual-clutch car, so no manual. The Track Pack costs more than a standard SC, and it gives up the back seats. Cup tires are for the track, so they aren't what you want in the rain on your commute.

If you want a comfortable daily V8, I'll point you to a different Mustang and tell you why. A GT or a standard Dark Horse may fit your life better, and I'd rather you buy the right car than the loudest one.

A car like this should end up with someone who's going to use it.

Who the SC is for

If you want GT500-style power with modern track hardware, the SC makes sense. If you're a track-day driver, or you're getting there, the Track Pack is built for you.

If you mostly cruise and want a V8, tell me. We'll talk through the options.

What I need from you

Allocation and ordering are the real conversation. When you reach out, tell me three things:

  1. How you plan to use it: street, track days, or both.
  2. Whether the Track Pack is what you want or the standard SC fits better.
  3. Your timing, so I can be straight about what's realistic.

For pricing, reach out. I'll give you real numbers, not guesses.
